Just because the temperature is dropping doesn’t mean you can’t get out of the city for some R&R. Last weekend, I roadtripped with my friend Jess and her housemate Kat to Prince Edward County, where we lazed around, played with the dog (hi Lucy!) and, of course – drank some wine.
Prince Edward County is home to some great wineries – you’ll be seeing a lot more of them profiled here in the future. Today’s post belongs to Casa-Dea and their tart and dry Riesling.
The Wine: Casa-Dea Riesling
Grape Variety: Riesling
Location: Wellington, Prince Edward County
Jess picked up a bottle of this citrusy grapefruit-centric Riesling and we enjoyed it after dinner. This wine is best served cold – I’d even throw it in the freezer five minutes before you crack it, just to make sure it’s chilled enough. The grapefruit and citrus flavours dominate, and it’s zesty on the nose. This isn’t a sweet Riesling, but it still has the traditional floral aromas that made me fall in love with Riesling in the first place.
Even though it’s chilly outside that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a ‘warm weather’ wine, and this was like summer in a glass. With the tartness of the citrus flavours and green apple notes, this almost feels closer to a Sauvignon Blanc – which is all right by me.
