Up until a few years ago, Gewürztraminer was the name of that grape that I didn’t know how to pronounce, so I actively avoided it. (It’s pronounced guh-voorts-truh-meaner.) Cut to the present day and it’s one of my favourite white wine varietals, especially here in Ontario. It’s a versatile grape, one that’s constantly surprising me with its depth.Read More
The nice thing about being a known wine-drinker is that people surprise you with bottles that you’ve never tried. For my birthday, I got a few bottles of wine from my parents, including this Opawa Pinot Gris from New Zealand. If you know me, you know I love - love - Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, specifically from the Marlborough region. Recently I’ve been getting into their Pinot Noirs, but New Zealand Pinot Gris is new for me, and I was so excited to dive into this bottle.
The Wine: Opawa Pinot Gris
Grape Variety: Pinot Gris
Location: Marlborough, New Zealand

Marlborough, New Zealand is home to some of the best Sauvignon Blancs in the world. Located in the northeast area of New Zealand’s South Island, Marlborough is home to both mountains and valleys, and there’s a richness in the soil that translates into some of the most exquisite white wine you’ve ever had. As well, New Zealand is famous for its great climate. This region has warm dry summers and mild winters and lots of sunshine all year round.Read More
Confession: I don’t drink French wine as much as I should. For someone who really, really likes wine, I don’t gravitate towards it. I wouldn’t say I’m overwhelmed or intimated (maybe a little), but I just don’t know where to start. So, when my boyfriend’s brother and sister-in-law gave me a bottle of one of their favourite French vintages, Domaine La Haute Févrie Sur Lie Muscadet Sèrve & Maine, I jumped at the chance to try it.
