Up until a few years ago, Gewürztraminer was the name of that grape that I didn’t know how to pronounce, so I actively avoided it. (It’s pronounced guh-voorts-truh-meaner.) Cut to the present day and it’s one of my favourite white wine varietals, especially here in Ontario. It’s a versatile grape, one that’s constantly surprising me with its depth.Read more
Goal for 2018: Drink more wine. Honestly, it’s at the top of my list, right along with eating more cheese, cuddling more dogs, writing more and eating more tacos. Clearly, I have my priorities straight!
In all seriousness, I do want to drink more wine this year. I want to drink more wine that I love, new wine, old wine, different wine, mind-blowing wine…you get the picture. There’s so much I don’t know about wine (besides the fact that I love it) and this year I want to expand my palette. I also want to share more of the wines I love with you on a more regular basis. In honor of that, today’s review is brought to you by one of my favourite wines in the Niagara Region: Organized Crime’s 2016 Pinot Gris. Sadly, this wine appears to be sold out, but I’m hoping the 2017 vintage will pop up soon; so mark your wine calendars.
As the weather gets cooler, I find myself gravitating to some of my favourite things: sweaters, good books and of course - wine. I'm a seasonal wine drinker; I drink more red in the winter than I do in the summer, but I am occasionally known to toss that habit out the window and crack a delicious Rosé in the middle of December. That said, I have been craving winter whites – like Chardonnay and Fumé Blanc – lately.
I have had Kew's Fumé Blanc kicking around in my wine fridge since June, and the beginning of October seemed like the perfect time to crack this beauty.Read more
Do you believe in wine destiny? I do. My boyfriend and I recently had a housewarming in our new home, and everyone kindly brought wine and champagne. Our friends know me, I mean us, very well: they know we love wine and they know about my wine site, of course.
At any rate, my friend Matt brought me a bottle of 2027 Cellars - a winery I had never heard of. This was a VQA Chardonnay. Ontario makes great Chardonnays - rich, buttery and lively Chardonnays. Needless to say, I was really excited to dive into this one.
The Wine: 2027 Cellars Wismer Vineyard Fox Croft Block Chardonnay 2014
The Price: $22.95
The Grape: Chardonnay
The Region: Ontario
Just because the temperature is dropping doesn’t mean you can’t get out of the city for some R&R. Last weekend, I roadtripped with my friend Jess and her housemate Kat to Prince Edward County, where we lazed around, played with the dog (hi Lucy!) and, of course – drank some wine.Read more
Malivoire’s Guilty Men is a wine that someone else discovered for me. I wish I could say I had the wherewithal to grab this bottle at my local LCBO, but my parents actually gifted me with a bottle as part of my Christmas present ast year. Yes, I’ve been holding out on telling you about this amazing wine for that long. It’s been a busy year, forgive me?
