When one of your favourite wineries releases a new wine, it feels like Christmas; I can’t wait to open the bottle and dive right in. Kew is an exceptional winery and if you’ve been there, you know how stunning the property is. It’s picturesque, but there’s something else at play here; a combination of great views, vines and viticulture. Kew’s latest release is a 2017 Organic Sparkling Riesling, which is available at the LCBO and not available at the winery itself.
The Wine: 2017 Kew Organic Sparkling Riesling
The Price: $19.95
The Grape: Riesling
The Region: Beamsville, ON
It’s a gorgeous buttery yellow colour, with hints of honeysuckle and honey crisp apples on the nose, this wine feels indulgent in the best possible way. Though it’s a spring release, I want to drink this wine when the leaves change; when fall creeps into summer nights. The flavour notes of the wine confirm this with hints of buttered toast and apple coming through, though I can easily see myself drinking this on a hot summer night as well. Soft flavours of pineapple, lightly charred on the barbecue, are also apparent along with notes of lime and hints of brown sugar.
This is a steal at $19.95, one that I suspect you’ll be drinking all summer and into fall.
Pair With: A charcuterie board; light on the meat, heavy on quality preserves and crackers. Think honey, goat cheese, homemade strawberry jam or marmalade.
